MANDURAH has missed out again after the next round of schools allocated to receive funding for electronic flashing speed zone signs was announced.
Transport Minister Dean Nalder said the equipment was being delivered under a new contract but said the $2.8million worth of installations set to be carried out this financial year would be restricted to metropolitan schools.
Schools surrounding Rockingham, including Warnbro, Port Kennedy, Safety Bay and Singleton have been included in this year’s list, but none in the Peel region.
“This is to ensure any glitches encountered would be rectified quickly and when we roll out the remainder of the 763 signs in coming years, they would have been thoroughly tested for Western Australian conditions,” he said.
The rollout is part of a four-year, $36m State Government commitment to provide signs to all 1071 WA schools by 2017.
The only flashing lights in the region are on Gordon Road at Assumption Catholic Primary School in Meadow Springs, which were installed in 2007.
