WRITING an entire book in a day is no easy feat but Mandurah Catholic College junior school students took up the challenge to raise money for Princess Margaret Hospital for Children.
Students in the quest program arrived at school early this week in their pyjamas and worked in teams to create a book of about 8000 words.
Quest program coordinator Yvette Clifton said students had to include elements such as cyclines, ladybirds and pilots into their stories.
“The students have lots of other opportunities to enter competitions so we try to make [the event] non-competitive and team-focused,” she said.
“It’s great to hear the students focusing on what they’re giving to the hospital.”
Year three student Daniel Stephenson said he enjoyed working in a team.
“I think it’s good for the sick kids in the hospital to have these books to read, especially the ones that have been in there for a long time in case they don’t have lots of books in their library,” he said.
“We have a kid from our school in Princess Margaret so it’s good for him too.”
