THE Pinjarra Tigers Football Club will recognise one of the club’s most successful periods this weekend against traditional rivals Waroona.
Pinjarra League players will wear a replica of the jumper which the club wore during the 1970s and 80s.
Back then Pinjarra were part of the North Murray Football Association (1966-73) and the Murray Districts Football League (1975-1989) before joining the Metropolitan Football League which formed the Peel Football League.
In that period Pinjarra won a premiership in one out of every two years, winning in 1966, ‘67, ‘68, ‘70, ‘73, ‘77, ‘78, ‘80, ‘81, ‘83, ‘84 and ‘86.
Pinjarra League coach Rob Smith, who played during that period, said it was a time when players could be in trouble with the community if the side didn’t make finals.
League co-captains Dean Beswick and Owen McLarty said they were proud to be wearing the jumper.
“I see old photos of my dad playing in the jumper,” Beswick said.
“It’s a chance to acknowledge a great era in the club’s history,” McLarty said.
McLarty said the club was proud to have strong community ties with 21 of the 22 players who took to the field for the League side against Halls Head last week having played junior football at the club.
