LOSS of Serpentine Jarrahdale to Armadale could spell out the end of the Peel region, Shadow Minister for Local Government David Templeman says.
The Local Government Advisory Board has proposed to merge the whole of the Serpentine Jarrahdale Shire with the City of Armadale and is seeking community response by mid-August.
Mr Templeman expressed his concern for the region’s viability if Local Government Minister Tony Simpson accepted the recommendation to merge the two shires.
“If the Minister accepts this recommendation then the Peel Region – currently comprising the City of Mandurah, Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale, Shire of Murray, Shire of Boddington and Shire of Waroona – will be reduced to four municipalities and our future will be at risk.” Mr Templeman said.
He said the loss of Serpentine Jarrahdale would not only devastate the identity of that community but would reduce the Peel Region significantly in size and population.
