YOUNG people in the Peel region should put on their sneakers and get ready for fun as a new Little Athletics Australia club is about to start.
The South Mandurah Little Athletics Club will involve children from Halls Head to Lake Clifton but people from all over the Peel region can apply.
Children aged between six and 16 can take part in relays, javelin, shot put, discus, hurdles, long jump, high jump and track and field events.
The club have called themselves the South Mandurah Jaguars and the younger participants will be called the Cubs.
“It’s about promoting health, fitness and getting together as a family to have a good time and meet other people,” club president Kim Dutch said.
“The main aim is to have fun and get involved so kids of all abilities can join.
“The families help on event days as well so it brings parents together as well and the younger kids will also be guided by the older ones.”
Registration will be on September 6 at Rushton Park and the group will meet regularly at the Ocean Road Primary School oval.
The group will contact local schools in the coming weeks to give parents more information and are also currently seeking sponsorship from the community.
