A MANDURAH mother was released on bail in Mandurah Magistrates Court on Tuesday despite an extensive record of breaching police orders, violence restraining orders (VRO) and conditional release orders (CRO).
Serena Rani Oakley appeared via video link from Bandyup Women’s Prison on one count of aggravated burglary, breaching a VRO, criminal damage or destruction of property.
Ms Oakley also faced two charges of breaching a CRO without a reasonable excuse.
Council for Ms Oakley said the 29-year-old had taken a brief intervention course while in custody, as well as undergoing counselling for alcohol abuse.
The court heard Ms Oakley and the victim had a difficult relationship and they both used pharmaceutical medication which, when combined with alcohol, resulted in arguments.
The police prosecutor said the victim in the case was a family member and Ms Oakley had 13 previous domestic violence offences with the person where “standover tactics” were used.
The prosecution opposed Ms Oakley being released on bail and said the accused had previously walked straight into the victim’s home despite a VRO in place.
Ms Oakley had been in custody since May 7 and Magistrate Vivien Edwards said she was persuaded to release her on bail due to the length of time she had already been in custody.
The magistrate said protective bail conditions would be in place and Ms Oakley was not to approach the victim.
