AS BOTH Mandurah Magic basketball teams get ready for finals a group that have been there all the way have gone relatively un-noticed.
The Hot Clobber Mandurah Magic Dancers have been at every home game this season lifting the atmosphere courtside during the men’s games.
The cheerleader group was formed this season under the guidance of Sharon lee Michau.
Michau taught dance in the area for close to 10 years and was a cheerleader for Melbourne Magic in the National Basketball League before forming the Mandurah Minks Dancers this year.
Michau said it was a new experience for the 12 girls.
“The girls came together from different dance schools around Mandurah,” she said.
“They love it; they’re all very talented.”
Michau said the group had one training session a week, a three-hour block on a Sunday.
“In a short time the girls have managed to put together 10 different routines that they perform in time-outs, quarter and three quarter time and half time breaks,” she said.
She said the group manages to fit in the training in between their own dance schedules and competitions.
“I wanted to give the girls a performance opportunity without the pressures of competition,” she said.
“They also like using the pom poms.”
The group comprises of Emilie Johnston-Maher, Summer Knowler, Jasmine McLean, Gypsy Knowler, Claire Utley, Jaimee Tilbee, Asha Holland, Nicole Capener, Samantha Howell, Abbey Williams, Alexandra Byrne and Jasmine Stewart-Yates with ages ranging from 14 to 20.
Next year Michau would like to expand to include a juniors cheerleading group for the women’s games.
Auditions for 2015 will take place in February.
