When thinking of the ballet, people could be forgiven for assuming the performances were the same every year, but The Dancers Company is here to show Mandurah that is not the case.
The regional touring arm of the Australian Ballet will be on the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre stage on August 12, where they will mix the old with the new in a triple bill performance.
Featured alongside Paquita and Swan Lake’s third act, Rimbombo is a relatively new performance created especially for The Dancers Company.
“The Australian Ballet does quite a few new pieces every season,” lead dancer Christopher Rodgers-Wilson said.
“The Dancers Company is just reflecting that same push the main company has.
“It’s really important to not only keep the dancers inspired but the audience inspired as well. And for the [Australian Ballet School] students who get the experience to see a piece being created from start to finish.”
This is the second time Rodgers-Wilson has taken part in The Dancers Company regional tour and he said it was important for programs such as the Australian Ballet’s touring arm to provide regional areas with access to the fine arts.
“It can be hard for main companies like the Australian Ballet to scale down to suit regional stages,” he said.
“We are able to adapt for the many different sized stages which we see on the tour.
“But it’s great that we can adapt because a lot of the audiences we perform to haven’t seen the ballet before.”
Since its first performance in 1980, The Dancers Company has given 697 performances in 65 locations nationwide and entertained more than 385,000 ballet fans in regional areas thanks to touring partner Telstra.
“This year we are celebrating 30 years of partnership between Telstra and The Australian Ballet and we are extremely proud to be supporting the tour to help bring world-class ballet to Mandurah and other regional areas across the country,” Telstra country wide area general manager for Perth south, Nicola Swarbrick said.
The Dancers Company will be at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre on August 12.
