Local artist Eamonn Doherty has just completed his one-month ‘artist in residence’ at Contemporary Art Spaces Mandurah (CASM), with a plan to exhibit his work in the next 18 months.
Mr Doherty’s passion is abstract art, focusing on colour, shape and texture.
He said his time in residence at CASM has been extremely fulfilling.
“Taking time off work to concentrate entirely on my painting has been an amazing opportunity,” Mr Doherty said.
“The CASM workshop space has allowed me to channel my focus and enabled me to try a few different things and techniques.”
Mr Doherty has been painting for 25 years and studied fine art in Lancashire, England for three years and a Bachelor or Arts in Belfast for one year, finishing with first class honours, before he moved to Mandurah in 1993.
CASM supports personal artist exhibition development, particularly new graduate and emerging artists, as well as partnerships with artists, arts organisations and communities.
The number of artists represented by CASM has grown by more than 50 per cent since 2012.
Last year, CASM hosted nine exhibitions, engaging 117 contemporary emerging and established artists.
The centre is currently hosting Dorothy Newland and Margot Wiburd as they come to the end of their 12 month artist residencies, and will host Michael Bell each Friday in the workshop space while he prepares for a group exhibition next year.
Dorothy launches her solo exhibition at CASM on August 31 while Margot is in preparation for her exhibition in early 2015.
Expressions of interest for the 2014-2015 CASM Artist Residency Program open on August 1.
