WALKING 60 kilometres is no easy feat but a team of Mandurah residents are putting on their sneakers for women’s cancer research.
Their team, the M Town Misfits will complete the walk over the course of two days in March 2015, with an aim to contribute to raising more than $2million for Harry Perkin’s Institute of Medical Research.
In the lead-up to the event, group members Sarah Glossop, Esther Irvine and Brittany Tibble will host a cooking demonstration master class with The Chefs Toolbox.
“I did the walk last year and it’s really inspirational – there are women there walking who are cancer survivors themselves, Ms Glossop said.
“You don’t have to walk the whole 60kms but seeing all the survivors made me push myself.
“I had 20km to go and my heels were one massive blister but I made it to the finish.”
Ms Irvine said she hadn’t attempted such a big distance since she ran in the City to Surf, which was only 12km.
“It’s quite exciting to fundraise for this – the generosity of local businesses has been amazing,” Ms Irvine said.
“All we need now is a big-ticket item to raffle off on the day.
“Everybody has been touched by cancer, whether it’s relatives, friends, or their families.
To help the group reach their $6000 fundraising goal, the cooking demonstration will include tastings, entertainment, door prizes, raffles and silent auctions and will be held on August 29 at the Port Bouvard Surf Life Saving Club.
Tickets to the event are $20 per adult but are strictly limited.
