IT IS National Diabetes week and Discount Drug Stores on Lakes Road held its second annual morning tea.
Discount Drug Stores Mandurah opened its doors to the Mandurah public and provided a wide range of information on the condition and managing one’s lifestyle.
“Diabetes is something we see quite often in the customers we serve here and it can be something people don’t know how to manage,” retail manager Nicole Crawford said.
“They think it’s the end of the world but there is a lot of help available out there.
“We made sure we had a variety of food on offer that’s suitable for diabetics, from sweet things like cakes and biscuits to savoury food like pizza and chicken meatballs.”
Ms Crawford said the store also brought in a dietician and a podiatrist to speak to people with queries about managing their condition correctly.
“People with diabetes can still live a regular life and it can be very well managed with the right advice,” she said.
Some of the food on offer included oatmeal and apple sauce cookies, chocolate brownies, mini quiches and zucchini slice.
The store also handed out flyers with information about medication for the condition and recipes of the food on offer.
