THE Mandurah Vikings Dragon Boat Club hosted the Dragon Boat Marathon on the Murray River on June 28.
It was the third time the club had hosted the event with three other dragon boat teams taking up the challenge to paddle 20 kilometres along the Murray River, the Lakers, the Fremantle Swans and the Indian Ocean.
The event started and finished at the Ravenswood Hotel with a turn around point located 6km downstream and 4km upstream from the hotel.
The four teams headed opposite ways (two upstream and two downstream) passing each other on the way to complete both ways of the course.
It made for an exciting race for the crowd with teams disappearing around the corner of the river not knowing exactly how far or behind they were.
First to finish were the Lakers in one hour, 41 minutes followed by the Fremantle Swans in one hour, 42 minutes.
Indian Ocean came in third in one hour, 44 minutes with the Mandurah Vikings crossing the line nine minutes later.
The club wanted to thank the volunteers for making this event possible and the Ravenswood Hotel who sponsored the event.
