A PINJARRA man who threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend after claims of infidelity has been jailed for two years.
The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his victim, pleaded guilty to threats to kill and was sentenced in Perth District Court last Tuesday.
It was established the man went through his ex-girlfriend’s mobile phone and allegedly found messages pertaining to the alleged pre-Christmas affair.
In a fit of rage, the man woke his sleeping ex-girlfriend during the January incident by pointing an improvised handgun firearm at her face.
The court heard the man yelled “You’ve cheated and I’ll kill you for it”.
“You have to learn your lesson,” the man told the victim in a fit of rage.
The man’s lawyer told the court it was while the duo were sorting out what would happen to their shared animals that the victim locked the accused outside and called police.
Before police could arrive, the man managed to get back in to the home and struck the woman to the face causing her to fall to the ground.
He then stole the woman’s beloved pet parrot and refused to tell police what he had done with the bird as the victim “deserved to lose the parrot” for the alleged infidelity.
On Friday the man appeared in Mandurah Magistrates Court to be sentenced for the remainder of the charges stemming from the January incident.
He sat with his head down for the majority of the video link hearing.
The man had earlier pleaded guilty to stealing the victim’s parrot, damaging her antique mirror by punching it during the argument, possessing the unlicenced modified handgun and subsequent ammunition and one count of common assault.
Counsel for the man argued his client was on methamphetamines and medication at the time of the incident and said the gun was given to him by a friend a couple of weeks prior.
Magistrate Vivien Edwards fined the man a global $3400 for the incident.
During his Tuesday court appearance, the man was sentenced to two years’ jail, backdated to his January arrest.
He was made eligible for parole which could be as early as January 2015.
