THE Mandurah Train Station will soon be equipped for a cashless paid parking system, given the State Government's earlier decision to eliminate free weekday parking at Perth train stations.
From July 1, passengers will be required to pay $2 per day to park at Transperth carparks which can be done through new system SmartParker.
“All you need to do is register your vehicle registration number with your SmartRider using the My Account section of the new Transperth website," PTA spokesman David Hynes said.
“It will mean passengers can park their cars, motorbikes or scooters, swipe their cards on the machine and then head straight to the station without having to display a ticket on their dashboard.”
Mr Hynes said passengers would still be able to buy a cash ticket at the Mandurah station.
“Paying for a cash ticket will mean you need to collect a paper ticket from the machine and then return to display it on the car,” he said.
“With SmartParker it’s a simple, cashless transaction after which you go straight to the train.
“However, you must still tag on to a Transperth bus or train or you will not be able to swipe into SmartParker the next time you park.
“It’s only fair to the people who use our system daily.
“Parking attendants will then be able to use license plate recognition software to check if parking has been paid for."
If a vehicle isn’t registered or no ticket is displayed, they will be given a $50 infringement.
Cars, motorcycles and scooters will be subject to the flat fee of $2 between the hours of 5am and 9pm, Monday to Friday. Parking on weekends and public holidays is free.
Passengers who park for less than a full day are still required to pay $2.
Those entitled to free travel, including seniors and carers, will still need to fork out the $2.
“A maximum of two vehicles can be attached to each SmartRider account,” Mr Hynes said.
“However, only one vehicle can be active on the account at any time, so, if you change cars, be sure to switch your active vehicle online, or by calling the Transperth InfoLine on 13 62 13 before tagging on to avoid a fine."
