POPULAR Australian children’s author Ken Holman has just released the fifth book in the Conky the Magic Kangaroo series.
The Singleton resident published his first Conky book in June 2009 after writing it for his grandchildren.
The book proved so popular that four have followed with readers all around world.
His books have been judged ‘book of the month’ by Melrose Books in England on two occasions.
The current release is made up of six books with stories ranging from the devastation of the Black Saturday bushfires to pelicans predicting rain fall.
Mr Holman’s stories are inspired by his experiences in the Australian outback as a prospector in the Goldfields.
“The books teach children about feral animals, the Southern Cross, rabbit migration; they are real ‘dinky di’ Aussie stories,” he said.
Mr Holman said the books didn’t rely on pictures with “proper stories” inside.
