Peel Health Campus is currently a 130-bed hospital with a 22-bed emergency department.
THE private company that operates Peel Health Campus (PHC) has committed to expanding the entire hospital and to fully fund the $75million redevelopment project.
Health Solutions (WA) Pty Ltd (HSWA) has made the decision to fully fund the project to prevent a crisis in the lack of health facilities in the Peel region and to meet growing demand.
The redevelopment project incorporates a complete renovation and expansion of the existing public hospital and emergency department and the construction of a new state-of-the-art private hospital.
During a recent meeting with Health Minister Kim Hames, HSWA unveiled their redevelopment proposal for the Hospital.
The PHC redevelopment and expansion plans include:
• Construction of a new private hospital (86 beds)
• Significant expansion of the existing emergency department (from 23 to 40 treatment bays)
• Thirty-three new public medical/surgical beds
• Two new operating theatres (from 4 to 6)
• One additional procedure room (from 1 to 2)
• Two new birthing suites (from 3 to 5)
• Medical imaging services
• Provision of additional allied health services
• Expanded dedicated car parking facilities
PHC director of Clinical Services Aled Williams said PHC had experienced an unprecedented increase in patient demand during the past five years, particularly in its emergency department and with the number of overnight hospital stays.
Dr Williams said the pressure on operating theatre space and obstetric beds had continued to rise.
“If the current growth rate continues, the hospital in its current state will be unable to cope with patient demand by 2014/2015”, he said.
PHC chief operating officer Ashton Foley said the HSWA Board had conducted extensive planning and forecasting to ensure their self-funded redevelopment and expansion plans met all of the Peel community’s needs, while providing brand new facilities and services.
‘”A new private hospital and more public beds will attract more specialists to the area, therefore providing access to care closer to home for patients,” Ms Foley said.
“We want to further improve our already high standards of care and the best way to achieve that is through expansion and growth.”
Subject to government approval, HSWA is ready to commence their redevelopment and expansion project immediately.

Both public and private hospital services are co-located at PHC, which is operated by the private company, Health Solutions (WA) Pty Ltd.
