FURTHER restoration works will be carried out at the Yalgorup National Park following the Peel-Harvey Catchment Council’s successful funding application to the Federal Government in association with South West Catchments Council.
The project will address some of the environmental issues affecting the north-eastern shoreline of Ramsar listed Lake Clifton, part of the Ramsar 482 site. PHCC Chairman Jan Star said the work builds on past actions undertaken by Peel-Harvey Catchment Council and the Lake Clifton Herron Landcare Group.
“The PHCC is appreciative of the funding which enables the important restoration work in the foreshore buffer at Lake Clifton to continue,” Ms Star said.
“The restoration is vital as part of the program to protect the critically endangered thrombolites.”
A work plan has been developed in conjunction with the Department of Parks and Wildlife and the Landcare Group.
Works include weed control, revegetation and the closure of some tracks to manage illegal access.
Activities will commence this month with expected completion in July.
