AFTER more than eight years and a host of successes in the region, Peel Health Foundation (PHF) is about to reach the end of its journey.
The group began in 2005 to provide education, training, research, equipment and provision of relevant facilities to support the prevention and control of disease in the Peel region.
The Foundation previously raised funds to establish a dedicated paediatric wing within Peel Health Campus, helped to fund the Peel Mobile Health Clinic vehicle and provided money for research heath projects in the region.
PHF chair Ann Fletcher said the group had developed a strategy to “fill the gaps within Government funding”, which is why the group was formed.
The group’s final aim is to establish a medical school in the Peel region.
“However, our board of directors feels that the Foundation has served its purpose and that we should now involve ourselves in a final project, using the remainder of the funds which have been raised,” Mrs Fletcher said.
“We want this final project to leave an overall lasting testament to the hard work of the Foundation’s dedicated supporters including corporate sponsors, local small businesses, local and state Governments and thousands of members of the Peel community."
Mrs Fletcher said the Foundation aimed to work with the Government, Peel Health Campus and Curtin University to get the school started.
“This will be our swan song and the directors will then apply for deregistration of the Foundation," she said.
Mrs Fletcher said the support the group had received since it started had been “magnificent”.
