IT TOOK just days for trees to be wiped out from an area one Falcon resident said she believed was a reserve.
Caryl Richards bought her property 30 years ago, building her home at the back of her block to take full advantage of the ocean views.
Now the reserve she once looked over has been replaced with construction work and the views are soon to be covered by a mountain of sand.
“It’s an invasion of privacy and quality of life,” Ms Richards said.
“I have no life anymore.”
Ms Richards said she and her neighbours knew about the Mirvac development, however did not realise the company were going to build the land up in order to ensure the new estate had ocean views.
“No one along here was taken into consideration at all,” Ms Richards said.
“We will never get our quality of life back.”
A Mirvac spokesperson said the developer provided the Seascapes Residents Association with regular updates on the construction progress within the community while specific details relating to the current construction was discussed at a public meeting held late last year.
“The works are adjacent to existing properties on Vanessa Road, Falcon and have required the replacement of existing rear boundary fences to provide appropriate retaining,” the spokesperson said.
“Mirvac’s civil contractors have communicated with all residents to notify and coordinate the construction of new 1.8-metre Colorbond fencing and in some instances due to varying ground levels, a small amount of retaining wall along the rear boundaries.”
The construction of the retaining walls will be within the boundary of the new home sites.
The spokesperson said as part of this process the City of Mandurah fulfilled public notice and comment requirements.
