IT’S an exciting phase for Mandurah Catholic College (MCC) with the campus’ new state-of-the-art building officially opened.
The C and D block buildings hold big art rooms, lockers and classrooms with equipment such as electronic whiteboards and widescreen televisions.
MCC principal Kerrie Fraser said planning for the new buildings began in 2011 to prepare for an increase in high school students when year seven became part of the secondary school.
“The year seven students becoming part of the secondary section meant a growth of an extra 200 students,” she said.
“The College is now the fourth largest in the Catholic system in Western Australia.
“The key part of the day was after the official ceremony when the College was opened to the community for tours conducted by student leaders.”
Ms Fraser said the buildings would provide flexibility for both teaching and learning.
“The buildings provide an engaging, modern, technologically advanced environment for students to assist them to excel in their studies,” she said.
“Specialist art and media facilities are also available.”
Mayor Marina Vergone attended the ceremony and said it was exciting to see the school grow.
“All three of my sons came here and this block will be great for the school – the arts and culture are so important for learning,” she said.
“The expansion of the school shows just how much Mandurah is also growing – we’ve now got more than 80,000 citizens.”
The school now has more than 1500 students and this year moved the year seven students into the high school.
