CHANTEL Jones will jet off to Thailand next week for 10 days of Muay Thai training followed by a fight on April 27.
The owner of Mandurah’s True Grit Thai Boxing Club, Jones travelled to Thailand earlier this year but was unable to fight due to a broken rib sustained in a previous fight before Christmas.
With the rib now at “99 per cent” the 37-year-old fighter is ready to add to her current undefeated record from four fights.
One of those wins came in August last year in Thailand against an expierenced fighter.
“They fight for a living over there,” Jones said.
“This fighter had 27 fights to her name.
“I managed to knock her out in one minute thirty.”
Jones said the problem with fighting so frequently for the Thai fighter is that they don’t have time to recover.
“They don’t go away and recover and learn,” she said.
“I take a couple of months off to strengthen where I went wrong.”
Jones said Mauy Thai fighting was far more relaxed in Thailand than it is in Australia.
“They don’t weigh you before a fight they just look at your size,” Jones said.
During her time in Thailand, Jones will undergo two weeks of intense training at Thai Sinbi Muay Thai with two 2.5 hour sessions per day.
The fight will be held in Rawai on April 27 with the opponent yet to be finalised.
Jones has been involved in Muay Thai for 12 years but only began fighting last year after meeting world champion Muay Thai fighter and fellow West Australian, Caley Reece.
Reece began training Jones with the pair becoming good friends.
“Caley will try to come over for the fight,” Jones said.
Those in Thailand during April 27 should make the effort to see Jones fight and cheer on the local fighter.
True Grit Thai Boxing Club offer the first five classes for free and provide Muay Thai training as well as boxing, strength and core training, fitness training and Little Gritters for children aged four and up.
