WOULD you like to get involved in the Stretch Arts Festival Mandurah’s opening event, Dance, Fire and Drifting?
A series of free community drumming workshops will be held in March and April in the lead up to a public drumming performance as part of the opening event.
The 2014 Stretch Arts Festival (April 19-May 4) is fast approaching and for the first time organisers have commissioned a free outdoor opening event, which will be overseen by creative director Donna Jackson and event coordinator Kellee Aberg.
Dance, Fire and Drifting calls on Mandurah’s affinity with the estuary and ocean and Indigenous oral histories of the area.
It will be a community performance including choreographed kayaking, dance, music, stories, fire on the water, and drumming.
Peter Russell of Repercussions and the Mandurah Drummers will be coordinating the drumming workshops, utilising drums and percussion instruments (and some choreography) as part of the arts event.
The workshops will be held on three consecutive Sundays – March 23 and 30 and April 6 from 2-4pm.
Don’t stand on the sidelines this year and watch the fun go by – get involved and head along to the Sutton Street Hall (corner Sutton and Gibson streets) and become part of this exciting local community performance.
