UP TO 10 animals have been rescued this afternoon following a blaze at the Coodanup property of a mother and daughter who were at the centre of an animal cruelty case in 2013.
The fire, on Steerforth Drive, tore through Kim and Rosemary Donovan's home about 4pm.
No one was home at the time but neighbours and firefighters managed to save eight cats and a dog.
One of the cats brought from the burning home reportedly had an elastic band around its neck while others were thin in appearance.
The dog rescued from the home was fed and rehydrated at the scene.
Kim Donovan was acquitted of animal cruelty charges in 2013 but her daughter Rosemary was found guilty on all 24 counts.
Rosemary was banned from owning animals for life after the RSCPA found dead birds and guinea pigs and animals which suffered from a prolonged period of neglect.
Some of those animals were euthanised.
Rosemary was fortunate to avoid an immediate prison term during sentencing where both she and her mother Kim failed to show any remorse for their actions.
The cause of the fire is still unknown but earlier indications point to a possible electrical fault.
The damage bill has been estimated at $300,000.
Police remain on the scene with an investigation under way.
The RSCPA will futher investigate the matter and said it was a "very disappointing" situation.
