WOOLWORTHS has been announced as the first major retailer at the upcoming Central Park Mandurah development beginning to take shape opposite Mandurah Train Station.
To be set in the proposed “main street”, the supermarket is to be joined by a tavern, a café, speciality shops and food outlets.
Civil works at Central Park Mandurah have now started ahead of the development’s official launch in June, with construction of the main street style retail development expected to commence within three years.
The Woolworths store will be the Peel region's fifth in a space of just 27 kilometres with two Woolworths in central Mandurah, another already in Falcon and a fourth in Secret Harbour.
The Central Park Mandurah development will include a mix of traditional homes, townhouses and apartments as well as retail, commercial and office space.
“Part of Mandurah’s housing future, Central Park Mandurah represents the new style of residential estate that people are looking for,” architect Ben Caine said.
“People are increasingly recognising the health and financial benefits of being able to walk to the shops, or jump on a bus or train to get to work.
“It’s part of the work/life balance that we all seek.”
DM Civil has been appointed to carry out earthworks on stage one of the 21-hectare site, which is bounded by Mandurah Road to the west, Bortolo Drive to the east and Kirkpatrick Drive to the north, which is currently under construction and due to be completed at the end of next month.
Designed to connect Central Park Mandurah to Mandurah Train Station, the striking new footbridge over Mandurah Road and the railway line is due to commence construction next month.
“An energetic and carefully planned community, Central Park Mandurah will herald a new era for the local area in terms of accessibility, liveability and value for money,” Mr Caine said.
The estate will ultimately be home to more than 2000 residents.
