A MAN who callously attacked his former landlord in his own driveway has been sentenced to seven months jail.
Rory Alexander Dickson attacked his former girlfriend’s landlord at the front of his property after a dispute over a car body left at the couple’s former rental property.
Mr Dickson and his girlfriend were evicted from their rental property last year and when the property was inspected two weeks later by the 59-year-old landlord, a car body was still on-site.
The court heard the landlord made repeated phone calls to get the unlicensed vehicle with no wheels from the property, before he organised the car to be taken to a wreckers.
It was established Mr Dickson and his girlfriend later waited in their car for the landlord to return to his home before he was ambushed.
The court heard Mr Dickson approached the victim, who was still seated in his car, and demanded he “face him like a man”.
A scuffle broke out between the two before Mr Dickson forced the victim to the ground and repeatedly punched him to the head.
The 59-year-old suffered bruising to his face and cheek and later required dental assistance.
Police prosecutor Rod Murray said he had little doubt Mr Dickson went to the victim’s home to “give him slightly more than a piece of his mind” after Mr Dickson’s lawyer argued his client just went to “talk” to the victim.
In a victim impact statement read to the court, it was established the 59-year-old victim suffers ongoing fear and anxiety due to the attack and bears a scar from the assault.
Counsel for Mr Dickson said “tempers were high” at the time of the attack and suggested it “was not a one-sided attack”.
When questioned by Magistrate Vivien Edwards, Mr Dickson’s lawyer said it was his client’s intention to pay the victim for the return of his car.
Mr Dickson, already serving a prison sentence for a separate assault, was sentenced to seven months in jail, on top of his current sentence.
He was made eligible parole.
