1901: Anna Edson Taylor became the first person to survive going over Niagara Falls in a barrel.
A widower, Ms Taylor wanted to secure her financial future so for her 63rd birthday she decided to do the stunt.
She was found by rescuers a short while after the plunge.
The trip itself took 20minutes but it was some time later when the barrel couldn’t be opened until sometime later.
1945: United Nations Organisation (UN) is formed.
The UN was formally inaugurated during a short ceremony at the United States State Department in Washington.
A total of 29 countries, including Australia, approved the United Nations Charter which was signed by 50 nations in June that year.
1978: James Hopes was born.
The Australian cricketer went on to play for Queensland and Pune Warriors, India in the Indian Premier League and has represented Australia in one day internationals and Twenty20 cricket.
1992: Mosquito numbers hit “plague proportions” in Mandurah.
The Mandurah City Council carried out larviciding that week in the Lake Goegrup area to avoid a repeat of the previous summer's Ross River Virus epidemic.
2003: It was the end of an era for Concorde
The legendary supersonic aircraft, landed at the end of its last commercial passenger flight at Heathrow airport.
The flight ended 27 years of supersonic history and carried 100 celebrities from New York.
2009: Miracle baby David Parkinson, pictured with his father, former Peel police superintendant David Senior, celebrated his 21st birthday.
He was born seven weeks premature and was given a one per cent chance of survival after being born with severe respiratory condition and heart problems.
2009: The Halls Head Bowling Club got a $251,000 upgrade.
The lawn was replaced with synthetic grass which was expected to save the group $6000 per year and was paid for with the club’s own money and funding from the City of Mandurah and the Department of Sport and Recreation.
