A SERPENTINE woman has put a new twist on an iconic image of Marilyn Monroe, by recreating the scene with flowers.
Amy Brown won the Smithers-Oasis Designz Cup Competition with her arrangement of flowers that captured Marilyn’s white dress billowing over a grate at this year’s IGA Perth Royal Show.
“I liked the idea of making the dress out of chicken wire and attaching flowers to it,” she said.
“This is my second year of entering the competition – last year I got a highly commended so it was great to get a first this year.”
The Smithers-Oasis Designz Cup Competition is a prestigious national competition open to all floristry students.
Ms Brown used carnations, chrysanthemums, orchids, roses and ivy to create her show piece in only 90minutes.
The theme of this year’s Smithers-Oasis Designz Cup Competition was ‘Tribute to a Fallen Star’.
She created the structure of her dress beforehand but had to put the flowers in within the time limit.
Ms Brown works at Balshaw’s Florist in Bicton and said she became interested in floristry after undertaking work experience in the industry in high school.
She is currently half way through her Certificate IV in floristry at TAFE and said her favourite flower is the oriental lily.
“I love having flowers around, when I’m at home I’m always bringing them in from the garden,” she said.
