THE saying is there’s no place like home but unfortunately for Peel Thunder, the side remains winless at their home ground in 12 successive matches.
The last time the Peel Thunder league side won at Bendigo Bank Stadium was July 9, 2011 – their first match at the ground since its redevelopment.
The winless home streak continued on Saturday as the Thunder went down by 100 points to West Perth 8.11 (59) to 25.9 (159).
The home side kicked just four goals by three-quarter time while in stark contrast, the Falcons slotted 20.
Peel nearly doubled their three quarter efforts in the last by kicking four goals, but that effort was well and truly too late as the Falcons recorded their eighth win of the season.
It is the Thunder’s second lowest score for the year after their 7.9 effort against East Fremantle in round 12.
Caretaker coach Mark Moody will need to find goal scoring options after his forward line of Brad Holmes, Matt Battye and Liam Hansen, in just his fourth league game, contributed just four goals between them; Holmes kicked three alone.
Brendan Hancock also contributed at centre half-forward with three majors but other than Scott Ugle’s goal in the opening term, the side had no avenues to goal.
With 10 players all with 25 games or less under their belt, including debutants Kyle Westwood and Ugle, the Thunder were easily outplayed by their more experienced opponents.
After a competitive first quarter, the Thunder dropped off in the second as the Falcons ran riot.
Open goals were a regular sight for the visitors as the Thunder lost the ability to win the ball at half forward.
With the match played predominately in the Falcons half, they made the most of their opportunities, scoring nine goals for the term.
A late off-the-ball hit by Pat Travers brought some feeling to the clash as players remonstrated with the midfielder following the incident, but that was as much fight as the Thunder would show.
The half-time break did not stop the Falcon scoring spree and by three-quarter-time the Thunder were faced with a 94-point deficit.
The Thunder showed they can match it with the rest of the competition in the last, but conceded 25 goals by the final whistle; the fifth time this year they have conceded more than 21 goals in a match.
In other results, Thunder reserves were beaten by West Perth 14.11 (95) to 6.9 (45) while the colts were able to come away with an 8.20 (68) to 6.8(44) win over the Falcons.
