THE local artist behind INQB8.mandurah’s current exhibition As I See It, will present an artist’s talk and a workshop this Saturday, July 13 at the Mandurah gallery.
Trudi Whitcher welcomed 80 guests to the launch of her first solo exhibition at INQB8 on Sunday, June 23. The gallery was abuzz with appreciation for her stunning selection of works, which are the result of her 12-month studio residency at INQB8.
The exhibition features 29 framed new works, a number of the artist’s early works on paper and a progression of her explorative studio works on display through personal folios.
Whitcher has explored the theme of Mandurah’s waterways, deriving content from her keen observation of colour, reflection, movement and light.
Below the Bridge and Reflected Light are both earlier studio works, and are key in showing Whitcher’s progression from painting what she sees to painting what she feels.
Sunset Spilled is Whitcher’s only traditional waterscape, featuring a horizon line providing both the landmass and watery reflection. Other pieces including Floating Shadows and Light Tickled Water make their concept connection through layered textures emanating ripples on the water’s surface.
In stark contrast to these colourful pieces, Whitcher explores darker compositions in her black and white series B&W # 1, 2, 3 and 4, where she uses subtle variances of grey with charcoal and graphite juxtaposed against strong marks of black and pure white acrylic.
Whitcher will give an in-depth artist’s talk at INQB8.mandurah this Saturday, July 13 at 2pm with afternoon tea provided.
She will also facilitate two practical workshops exploring medium applications of edicol dye, with dry media such as pastel and graphite.
The workshops will be held on Saturday, July 13 and Wednesday, July 17 from 9:30am-11:30am. The cost is $25 and all materials supplied.
Bookings are essential.
As I See It will be on show at INQB8 until July 21, and Whitcher will be attending the gallery daily and each weekend.
INQB8.mandurah is at 63 Ormsby Terrace and gallery hours are Wednesday to
Sunday from 12:00pm to 4:00pm and Thursdays from 12– 5pm.
