String of charges
JOSHUA Daniel Melling of Waroona pleaded guilty to a string of charges in Mandurah Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old was charged with receiving, possessing stolen or unlawfully obtained property, possessing unlicensed ammunition, possessing a prohibited weapon, being in possession of a firearm/ammunition without the appropriate licence and two counts of failing to ensure the safe-keeping of a firearm and ammunition.
Police prosecutor sergeant Rod Murray said a search warrant was executed on Mr Melling’s rental home in Waroona on June 6.
Officers found 350L of diesel fuel that had been recently stolen, an unlicensed handgun wrapped in a tea towel, unlicensed ammunition, ammunition stored in the hallway, bedroom and a Toyota Hilux and a wooden crossbow hanging in the shed.
Counsel for Mr Melling said his client lived a rural lifestyle and the weapons weren’t used for a ‘dark nature’.
He sought a financial penalty for the charges.
The prosecutor agreed to a financial penalty but asked Magistrate Vivian Edwards to refuse a gun licence to Mr Melling.
Magistrate Edwards fined Mr Melling $3750 for all charges and suspended him from holding a gun licence for three years.
School attack
AN iced coffee cost a Meadow Springs mother of six a fine of $1000 in Mandurah Magistrates Court last Tuesday.
Leslie Lee Jacobs, 41, pleaded guilty to common assault and disorderly behaviour in public after she threw an iced coffee at a relief teacher of her children’s school.
Police prosecutor said Ms Jacobs was picking her children up from Meadow Springs Primary School on February 15 when she parked in the bus bay.
The bus was forced to double park prompting a relief teacher – responsible for getting students on to the bus safely – to ask Ms Jacobs to move.
Ms Jacobs threw her iced coffee at the teacher then got out of her car and shoved the teacher in the chest.
Ms Jacobs was yelling and swearing loudly and there were children present.
She said she was ashamed for what she had done and had been having a “hard day.”
Magistrate Vivian Edwards ordered $50 of the fine to be paid to the teacher.
