CAPE Bouvard Investments (CBI) Pty Ltd has withdrawn its application to establish a wind farm in Lake Clifton.
The company’s proposal to have 30 wind turbines operating on five properties over 980 hectares between two protected vegetated areas angered local residents, prompting the withdrawal.
CBI representatives reported during the open days there was great concern among the Lake Clifton community that the turbines would destroy the tranquillity of residents living close to the site.
Hostile claims that property values would be affected were also expressed.
CBI said although this was based “mainly on perception” it had been “taken most seriously resulting in the project’s termination”.
The company said the proprietors and their family had “enjoyed the Peel region for over 30 years” and they do “not wish to risk destroying this for others whether perceived or not”.
The five properties would now be sold individually or as one.
