Thunder topples top team in a nail-biter

PEEL Thunder have caused the upset of the season and had arguably the best win of the club's history with a 14-point come-from-behind victory over ladder-leaders Claremont.

The Thunder trailed for the majority of the match but drew level at three-quarter-time before an outstanding final quarter saw the side record just their third win at Claremont in the club's history.

Defender Chris Luff proved the inspiration for his side as he backed back into a pack late in the match to stop a Claremont shot on goal with his side just nine points up with minutes remaining.

Luff was heavily concussed and carried from the field on the stretcher but his side rallied in the final minutes to hold onto their lead before Brad Holmes kicked the match winner to give the Thunder just their second win of the year.

Holmes kicked three goals with Eddy Dann and Matt Battye also slotting three each for the visitors in the 14.14 (98) 11.18 (84) win.
