FOUR men who faced court this morning charged with fisheries offences have walked away with hefty fines.
Adolfo Abrenica Catapang, 47, Anthony Encisa Guese, 39, Reynante Gadayan, 33, and Alvin Braganza Salino, 47, all pleaded guilty to being in possession of undersized crabs on January 25.
The court heard the four men were stopped by fisheries officers at 10pm on Mandurah Road.
A routine check uncovered a haul of 89 blue swimmer crabs under the minimum legal size of 127mm.
The men, who are in Australia on temporary visas, said they were unaware of both bag and size limits and routinely ate smaller crabs in their home country of the Philippines.
They were each fined $4060 and ordered to pay court costs of $125.70.
