RE: New licence laws for boat fishing (Mail March 4).
When I was a small boy my father taught me how to fish.
He also taught me to respect the fish we catch today be enough and to leave some for another day.
I applied for a Recreational Licence yesterday in Mandurah and was given, at the time, an eight-page dossier on how I shall use my fishing licence.
I was surprised to learn that what we had accepted before March for our licence fees has now changed dramatically from March 2010 on.
As a senior citizen I accept the discount given which still relates to what it was before March.
I read with interest comments from Fisheries principal managing officer Nathan Harrison that the funds from the new licence fee would be spent solely on initiatives relating to recreational fishing. We are asked to give freely a survey to assist in evaluating the success of various management strategies carried out by the Department.
Today I have purchased a small invoice book and would be delighted to give any fishing officer a survey.
My survey fee would be $100.
The officer would have to sign the invoice and I would be happy to give any information that he requires.
