Name game

IT is with great amusement that I read the official name for the Mandurah Entrance Road - Mandjoogoordap Drive

I do not wish to belittle anything Aboriginal but why have the officials chosen a name that most people cannot pronounce or spell.

They will have to build a bypass road around the sign post ‘To Mandurah via Mandjoogoordap Drive’.

Something simple like Mandurah Link would be more useful.

'Mandjoogoordap Drive’. Elect clowns and silly names and ideas come to mind.

With a name like that, which most will be unable to remember or pronounce, it won't take long before the people invent their own name.

Mandjoogoordap Drive ... Interesting name and about time the original inhabitants of this country and this area had their language recognised. Maybe all the critics should do as the original inhabitants have had to do and learn how to spell and pronounce the words they are not familiar with. Why is it certain members of the caucasian population think their language is the one we should ALL speak. I am of English, Irish and Scottish decent with one Noongar and two Yamatji daughters and I have made it my goal in life to learn some of the culture and language of their paternal ancestors ... It has widened my perspective and broadened my interest in the natural inhabitants of this country. Try it you might surprise yourselves …
