IT WAS case of third time lucky for Dawesville teenager Davis Blackwell at the Australian National Bodyboard Titles last week.
In his third consecutive national titles, the 13-year-old finally broke through for a win in the under 14s grommet division after finishing runner-up last year and equal fifth in 2007.
Going into the six-day championships held at Coolangatta in Queensland, Blackwell was a strong chance to win, having two national experiences under his belt and being one of the oldest in his division.
And he won convincingly - taking advantage of the small waves with some big roll and spin combos to win the final by three points.
The year eight Mandurah Catholic College student originally qualified for the national titles after winning the three under 14s grommet division state rounds.
Boadyboarding since he was five years old and competing since he was eight, Blackwell can usually be found at his favourite break - Wedge in Dawesville.
The nationals is the season-ending competition and so until competition starts again next year Blackwell will be spending more time bodyboarding for fun over the summer.
Falcon 15-year-old George Humphries also competed at the Australian National Bodyboard Titles and made it to the quarter finals in the under 16 cadets division.
