Mandurah and Cockburn set to lock horns

24 Jul, 2009 04:00 AM
MANDURAH City will take on Cockburn City at Hyundai Stadium in Halls Head this Saturday in the State Premier League round 14 match of the week.

Friday night football was a highlight from Round 13 and a 10-man Mandurah City managed to hold on against Floreat Athena for a 1-1 draw.

Cockburn also slipped up when Armadale grabbed an injury-time winner through James Robinson for the three points. This week sees a clean slate as both sides go head-to-head down at Hyundai Stadium in Mandurah.

Both sides do not want to slip out of a place in the Flexible Signage Solutions Finals Series, so will need to give it their all to gain a result. Mandurah have only taken eight points from a possible 21 from matches at home, so Cockburn will take confidence from that.

The Round 3 clash between both teams saw Mandurah prevail 4-1 at Dalmatinac Park. Andy Brown and Stephen Payne will be out suspended for Mandurah, while goalkeeper Nick Feely will be out for Cockburn.

Another highlight of the round will be the clash between Perth SC and Swan United at BGC Stadium from 3pm Sunday.

The last time these teams met, Perth dominated and ran out 4-1 winners at Francis Street. Swan United is coming off a thrilling 3-3 draw with the Stirling Lions, while top-of-the-table Perth Is coming off a shock 3-2 loss to ECU Joondalup. Perth can't afford to slip up again as the Western Knights are hot on their tail, only behind on goal difference.

Swan is only two points out of a place in the Flexible Signage Solutions Finals Series, so cannot afford to come away without a point in this fixture as the mid-table battle tightens up. Matt Danskin will be out suspended for the home side; a big loss from Perth's regular starting eleven. Perth's only loss at home was the thriller against Floreat Athena, so Swan will know what a big challenge it will be to defeat them.
