Evans beached

06 May, 2009 12:02 PM
WELLARD trainer Phil Evans has been having a good run on the track with his small team of greyhounds and the winning run continued at Mandurah last Friday night.

Evans has found a nice type in the way of two-year-old blue dog Beached As (Surf Lorian-Orara Dreams) who recorded his fourth win from just his fifth start on Friday night.

Beached As jumped well from box two giving favourite backers little concern from the outset as he raced clear of his nearest rival Miles Hill Lad trained by John Cole at Lake Clifton.

Evans was relieved to see his young chaser back into the winners circle after his perfect record was blemished for the first time at his most recent start where he faded in the run to line and was defeated by a nose by Good Riddance.

With a personal best time of 22.84, the 31kg dog looks set to further improve with maturity and could be a better proposition when he gets over the longer 492 metres.

Evans’ kennel star is Disco Girl (Most Awesome-Eureka Disco) who has emerged as one of the leading stayers in WA with two recent wins over the 715 metres at Cannington.

Having finished fourth behind Tawqeet Delta in the recent Sky Channel Galaxy heats, Disco Girl has won three times and placed second twice in five starts for Evans.

Babyteeth Rogers (Collision-Our Flash Pearl) made it three wins in a row for Karnup trainer John Graham when he defeated Low Trajectory for Nambeelup trainer Andrew McLaren.

The black dog has now recorded nine wins at Mandurah for Graham and his family who own the talented chaser.

Graham trained a winning double when Thunder Above (Benny’s Toll-Ominous Angel) returned to the winners circle in the Prime Trophies Mixed Stake over the 492 metres.

Thunder Above had recorded three wins from four starts before being injured over the longer 647 metres at Mandurah in early April before returning to the track and being galloped on again at his next start.

Last Friday though the large brindle dog had no problems as he led from box two and held off his rivals headed by Birthday Present who is trained by Nambeelup mentor Wayne Rose.
