Pro Stock sets hot pace at Motorplex

THE opening event of the Perth Motorplex drag racing season on Saturday night saw world class performances in ideal conditions as both the ANDRA Pro Series and local categories produced scintillating action.

The second round of the national Pro Stock championship was the feature event and saw Queenslander Aaron Tremayne defeat Victorian Lee Bektash in a fantastic final, with both racers recording elapsed times of 7.06sec.

Tremayne clinched victory with a better reaction time on the start line and justified his reigning national champion status.

The event also saw the national record for the category fall with North Queensland's John Barbagallo running a 7.03sec. time to set the new standard, though he lost in the semi finals to Tremayne.

Western Australia's lone entry was Allen Puglia, who unfortunately missed qualifying for eliminations by just 0.02sec., though he later advanced in the consolation bracket.

The first round of the state series got off to a good start also with Spearwood's John Zappia using a new car to great effect.

His supercharged Holden Monaro defeated Andrew Minogue's Ford Falcon in the final.

Other event winners included Steve Flynn in Super Comp and Neil Anderson in Competition Bike.
