PEEL Thunder came out firing in the opening game of the WA Football League season against Claremont at Rushton Park on Saturday afternoon.
They kicked 4.5 in the opening term to hold down a commanding lead and not let the Tigers score their first goal until late in the quarter and go into the break with 1.3 on the scoreboard.
Unfortunately for the undermanned locals that was as good as it got in the season-opener.
The Tigers roared in the second quarter when they kicked 12.2 while restricting the home team to just two points.
Scoring was pretty even in the third quarter with both sides adding three goals but again in the final quarter Claremont dominated in attack to win 27.13 (175) to 9.11 (65).
In other games West Perth 20.13 (133) defeated Swan Districts 11.3 (79), East Fremantle 13.12 (90) defeated Perth 13.9 (87) and South Fremantle 15.7 (97) defeated East Perth 13.15 (93) while Subiaco had the bye.
More details of the local game and the WAFL round will appear in the Mandurah Mail on Thursday.
