THE Mandurah Makos, the Peel region’s only AFL Masters Football Club, has started pre season training with good early numbers turning out on the training track.
Peel AFL Masters is gearing up for its 23rd year of competition and caters for players over the age of 33 years who want to continue playing football, but in a less competitive environment.
This year the Makes will field three Supers (33-40 years), Masters (40-45 years) and Seniors (over 45 years).
This year the new-look committee has also adopted a new mission statement of Be Active, Be Part of it, which reflects what the club is about.
Club president Steve Milligan said they provided an environment for guys to get fit with people of their own age.
“Our games are scheduled every second week to allow our bodies to get over each game and you put into it what you want to get out of it,” Milligan said.
“We have some very fit younger guys and our oldest member still playing would be 63, so we have to cater for all ages.
“With our new clubroom facility complete it should enhance our reputation as a fun, family based club that involves the whole family.”
The players’ wives have formed a Mrs Makos club and go on regular walks and runs to keep themselves fit.
