A YOUNG and inexperienced Peel Thunder line-up lost its first pre-season match in stifling conditions at Bendigo Bank Stadium last Saturday.
The Thunder lost 5.4 (34) to 15.15 (105) to Subiaco.
New coach Trevor Williams said he wanted to play younger players in the scratch match so he could take a look at their development.
Williams noted Rhett Mason, Bake Piggott as standouts in the match along with 19-year-old Victorian recruit Brodie Filo.
“They all showed promise and some good signs,” he said.
This Saturday Peel will travel to Arena Joondalup to take on West Perth.
“It will be a different side again this Saturday- we’ll mix and match and sprinkle senior players between the reserves and league teams.”
Peel will then have its final pre-season hit-out next Saturday against Swan Districts at Bendigo Bank Stadium before round one kicks off on March 20 against Claremont at home.
