TWO Peel Thunder players were snapped up by AFL teams in the national draft yesterday afternoon.
Anthony Morabito, an 18-year-old, 190cm midfielder was the fourth pick in round one and joins the Fremantle Dockers.
Eighteen-year-old key forward Aaron Black, who stands at 192cn, was taken at pick 25 in round two and will relocate to the Kangaroos in Victoria.
The WA Football Commission said it was another outstanding result for WA with 13 players drafted.
The result means that 68 WA players have been added to AFL club lists over the past three years via the National, Rookie and Pre Season drafts, with the 2009 Rookie and Preseason Draft still to come.
WAFC High Performance Coach Rob Wiley said this was another strong outcome for WA football, one that all community and WAFL football clubs that have been involved in the development of these young players, should be very proud of.
“From the players point of view, we would be hopeful that the opportunity that has been presented to the WA players will be grasped with both hands and that they use the full time professional environment of an AFL club to further improve their game,” Wiley said.
