WAROONA is two games clear on top of the Peel Football League ladder after defeating Pinjarra by seven goals last Sunday.
The Demons held the Tigers goalless in the first half while scoring 4.6 themselves at their home ground.
While the home side was outscored in the third quarter they maintained a four-goal lead going into the final term.
The Demons handled the tough conditions better in the last quarter to add a further three goals to their score while holding the Tigers to just one point to record an 8.7 (55) to 1.7 (13).
Simon Horner kicked three goals for the Demons to take his season tally to 34.
He is fourth on the leagues leading goal kickers ladder behind South Mandurah spearhead Rod Tregenza (58 goals), Frank Agostino of Baldivis (43) and Mandurah’s Justin McCain (38).
Waroona has lost just one game after 11 rounds and will have another challenging game at home this Sunday when they meet fifth placed Baldivis for the first time this season.
After a rocky start to the season, Baldivis has settled and is on the verge of entering the top four. On equal points with the fourth placed Tigers, only percentage is keeping the Brumbies out of the top four.
The Brumbies also have a handy five-win buffer over the Centrals in sixth place.
Baldivis head into their clash against Waroona off the back of a 44-point home win over the bottom placed Armadale.
Agostino kicked four goals in the 15.15 (105) to 8.13 (61) win.
Reigning premiers South Mandurah moved into second position on the ladder after beating cross-town rivals Mandurah under lights at Rushton Park by five goals.
The first three quarters were close and the game was all tied up at 21 points each after the opening term.
Less than two goals separated the two sides at the other two quarter breaks.
The Falcons led by 10 points at half time and then 11 points going into final term.
In the last quarter the Falcons broke away and kicked three goals while keeping the Mustangs scoreless to record a 10.10 (70) to 6.4 (40).
Both on eight wins and three losses, the result sees Falcon’s move into second place and the Mustangs slip to third with percentage separating them.
This weekend the Falcons will play Pinjarra at Sir Ross McLarty and the Mustangs will travel to Mundijong Oval to play the Centrals.
The Centrals go into that match after a 41-point home win over Rockingham.
It was just the second win for last year’s grand finalists.
