THE wet weather hampered more than half of the Peel Cricket Association’s round 14 games, with three matches abandoned.
Only Pinjarra and Waroona were able to record a result, with Waroona’s win just their second for the season.
Pinjarra moved into the top two with their strong performance against Mandurah at home.
After losing the toss and finding themselves in the field, Pinjarra struggled to make in roads into the Mandurah top order.
The introduction of Luke Beaven into the attack sparked Mandurah’s collapse as he claimed 3/29 from 10 overs.
Beaven’s spell left Mandurah at 9/171 from their 50 overs.
Also contributing with the ball was Pinjarra captain Jamie Lee who claimed 2/21.
Lee continued his great day as he came out to open with part-time opener Mark Hennessey.
The pair put on a 106-run stand with Lee the first to fall for 65.
When Hennesey fell for 50, it opened the door for Mandurah as Pinjarra were left at 4/147.
But steady middle order partnerships proved the difference as Pinjarra cruised past the Mandurah total before reaching 5/208 from 50.
An outstanding performance by Waroona’s Matt Thomas has helped the side to a big win over Old Irwinians Cricket Club at home.
The home side were sent in to bat and soon showed what the side is capable of, with Dion Rendall posting a well-made 62.
He was well-supported by Nic Rep who scored 50, but it was Thomas who stole the show with his 86 runs pushing the Waroona total past 200, a rarity for the side this season.
They finished 7/244 at their close of innings.
Thomas backed up his batting effort by taking 2/15 from five overs.
He supported his captain Adam Clancy who claimed 3/32 from his 10, rolling Old Irwinians for 122.
The results leave White Knights Baldivis three games adrift of the top four and Mandurah one game outside the finals race.
Pinjarra, South Mandurah, Halls Head and Shoalwater Bay will continue their fight for the top place on the ladder as the finals race heats up with just four rounds remaining.
