Halls Head crush Mandurah

13 Jan, 2010 04:16 PM
MANDURAH played Halls Head for the first time at their new Meadow Springs facility in their Peel Cricket Association A grade last weekend.

The round 12 game loomed as the match of the round considering their fierce rivalry and the fact that both sides were in the top four, but it was far from it.

Halls Head thumped Mandurah by a record 206 runs.

Halls Head won the toss and batted with openers Mitch Green and Brendon King enduring some lively bowling on a wicket that had plenty of grass and uneven bounce.

They were able to weather the storm and once the wicket settled down dispatched Mandurah’s bowlers to all parts of the ground.

Green was the first batsman out in the 14th over when the score was on 91, making 44 which included seven fours.

King soon followed with the score on 109, compiling 48.

The middle order batsman capitalised on the good start and produced a very even batting performance with solid partnerships between Liam Blampied and Chris Phelps (63) and Blampied and Brennan Gillam (65).

Blampied (61), Gillam (42), Phelps (31) all batted well for the side and some big hitting by Peter Wyllie (21 not out) towards the end of the innings enabled Halls Head to reach 7/290 after 50 overs.

Mandurah captain Kas Lowe took 3/50 and Brett Ronan chipped in with 2/42.

Mandurah were soon in trouble when opener Paul Oakey went to pull Matt Gordon and was bowled out for two.

Rod Tregenza then had Mandurah’s prolific run scorer Ben Drummond LBW for seven with a delivery that kept low to have the home side reeling at 2/17.

From that point on it only got worse with all Halls Head bowlers keeping the pressure on, bowling a very good line and length.

Mandurah were bowled out for 84 with Glenn Tunstall top scoring with 17.

Gordon took 2/23 off his 10 overs, Tregenza 2/19 and Matt Guyton 3/17.

At Sir Ross Mclarty Oval Pinjarra won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Shoalwater started slow and steady with Smith (28) and Hettle (17) taking the score to 45 for the first wicket.

Shoalwater then lost wickets steadily and were restricted to 9/135 off 50 overs.

Pinjarra started quickly and Peter Miller and Andrew Darnley combined with a partnership of 91 to take the score past Shoalwater’s total.

Miller continued to score and finished 125 not out off 142 balls with three sixes and 12 fours. Pinjarra scored 8/255 off 50 overs.

At Settlers Hillman won the toss and chose to bowl first.

The Knights’ opening batsmen looked solid until bad calling between the wicket saw the first of two quick wickets to have the Knights 2/19.

Jamie Buchanon (16) and Lee Sibley (25) looked to steady the innings until both fell in quick succession to Troy Lovegrove who took 3/29.

Hillman looked on top soon after drinks with the Knights slumping to 6/87 but the Knights lower order rallied to put on a further 100 runs, finishing all out in the 49th over for 188.

Hillman started the run chase poorly with Brad Raath taking two early wickets.

Dickson (32) and McDonald (28) put on a nice partnership before they collapsed to be all out 125.

Scott Halpin (4/33) and Ben Frawly (3/30) did the damage for the Knights.

At Stan Twight West the Old Irwinians hosted Warnbro.

Batting first on a pitch with very little life, The Ugles did the damage, contributing to a healthy total of 258.

With a large total on the board, Warnbro looked intent on finishing the day.

The only resistance offered by the Old Irwinians was a 30-run stand between Bryce Evans (23) and Stephen Ralph (15) with the home side falling well short, all out for 89.

South Mandurah met Waroona at Peelwood with South Mandurah winning the toss and batting. Sean Nye and Brad Holmes were again in blistering form, hitting 40 of the first three overs before Mat Thomas bowled both openers in the same over to have the home side at 2/61.

Brad Wiseman batted solidly for most of the remaining innings to finish with 38.

South Mandurah was eventually dismissed for 168 in the 38th over.

Waroona started well, although losing two early wickets, which brought Thomas to the crease who unleashed some powerful hitting to rack up a quick 50.

Waroona were eventually dismissed for 216 with David Holmes and Wiseman picking up a couple of late wickets each.

Next week will see a contingent of Peel players take part in the annual country week tournament with Peel this year entering a record six sides.

There will also be a local twenty20 competition over the next two weeks.
