Beaven learns different wickets

27 Jan, 2010 05:08 PM
LUKE Beaven may be a long way away from his home in England but he isn’t complaining.

He is spending the Australian summer playing for Pinjarra in the Peel Cricket Association A-grade competition.

The trip was organised by Pinjarra player Mark Hennessey.

The Beavens and Hennesseys met each other through cricket circles and with Pinjarra in need of a spin bowler/ batter, the 20-year-old was the ideal candidate.

Beaven, a left arm orthodox spin bowler and middle-order batsman played his first match for his new club in round 12 earlier in the month and took 4/10 from 10 overs in the win over Shoalwater Bay.

This is Beaven’s first trip to Australia and he will play out to rest of the 2009/10 with Pinjarra.

In England he plays county cricket for the MCC Young Cricketers second-11 team.

“It’s been good so far, I can’t complain,” Beaven said.

“It’s a good experience for me to play on different wickets.
