OVER the past month Boxing WA has been holding the 2010 Novice Titles and the Billy Dower Boxing Club entered two boxers with both winning titles.
Seventeen-year-old Jemma Dale, the first female to box out of the club in more than six years, came up against 25-year-old Port Hedland boxer Salina McPhee.
Dale showed plenty of courage as she took the fight up to the more mature boxer - landing nice straight jobs and loading up solid right hands.
Dale won every round, finishing with a score of 12-1.
Coach Brian Sartori said to get more bouts Dale would probably have to take on older women or be prepared to give away size advantage.
Dale is a very determined boxer who is not afraid of hard work.
Any females who would like to take up boxing with a view to eventually competing can call the Billy Dower Youth Centre on 9535 8867.
Twelve-year-old Jack Smith, in his first fight for the club, took on Jayden Sanford from Hassans Boxing Club.
It was an awkward fight for Smith, who is a very skilful boxer, while Sanford was very busy throwing lots of swinging punches.
Smith was solid in defence, waiting for openings, then counter punching.
Smith, who has plenty of talent, should be back in action very soon according to coach John Florenca.
