ROUND two of the State Basketball League was not a good one for Mandurah Magic over the weekend.

From three matches, the Magic lost all three.

The women were first on the court, facing the Lightning at Lakeside Recreation Centre on Friday night.

In a close match the Magic women were defeated by five points.

Lightning import Natalie Young was the difference.

She scored 32 points, collected nine rebounds and made three steals.

After two rounds the Magic women sit in seventh position with one win and one loss.

The Magic men had two games over the weekend and kicked off their double-header against the Lightning at Lakeside Recreation Centre after the women’s match on Friday night.

Going into the game the Magic were rated underdogs after the Lightning got off to a flyer in round one, winning both their opening matches.

Despite putting up a strong fight the Magic men were unable to get on top of the Lightning and lost by 11 points.

Jason Falknor (26 points, nine rebounds, six steals), Luke Payne (22 points, five steals) and Ryan Sofoulis (21 points, six assists) were too strong in the Lightning’s 103-92 win.

For the Magic Andrew Bowman top scored with 25 points, he also had five assists, four steals and eight rebounds.

Kane Thompson and Ben Caporn each chipped in with 15 points.

On Sunday the Magic hosted its first home game at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre with the men playing the Geraldton Buccaneers.

In another close game the Magic again fell short to lose by nine points.

In a dominant performance for the Buccaneers Luke Meyer scored 30 points and collected 15 rebounds.

Bowman again top scored for the Magic with 20 and also made five assists and five steals.

Aaron Trahair and Capron scored 16 points each while Tom Remmerswaal added 15 to the Magic’s score.

After two rounds the Magic men are winless in second last position on the ladder.

Willetton and Kalamunda are yet to post a victory.

In round three this weekend Magic will travel to Eaton Recreation Centre to play the Southwest Slammers.

For the men the Slammers are in eighth position with one win and two losses while the women’s team is winless from two games and sitting second last on the SBL ladder.
