THERE were two reasons to celebrate for Mandurah Magic in the State Basketball League on the weekend with wins for both the women’s and men’s teams over the Perth Redbacks on Saturday night.
The women’s team kicked off the celebration at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre with a 52-47 win.
Casey Miholovich top scored for Magic with an impressive 23 points after playing out the full 40 minutes.
She was supported under the bucket by Tracey Richter with 11 and Kelli Hayward with 8.
Brooke Hiddlestone was the top scorer for the Redbacks with 19 points.
Mandurah trailed 14-9 at quarter time and then 17-10 at half time before scoring 17 to the Redbacks’ 12 in the third team.
Their final quarter effort was even stronger, adding another 16 points while restricting the Perth team to only four points.
Mandurah then defeated the Redbacks 119-101 in the men’s game.
The local team’s win was set up by a very strong 36-point haul in the opening term, while restricting the Redbacks to just 19 points.
The remaining three quarters were a fairly even affair with Mandurah getting over the line thanks to that strong opening session of play.
Casey Crevelone top scored for Magic with 29 points while other strong scorers were Maxwell Hunter 19, Tom Remmerswaal 15, Kane Thompson and Andrew Bowman with 14 points each.
